In 'The Island of Dr. Moreau Braddock (Michael York) a decent young Englishman is miraculously saved by the mysterious Dr. Montgomery (Nigel Davenport) after being thrown overboard a ship sailing in a remote area of the Pacific. Dr. Montgomery is accompanying a cargo of animals destined for a tropical island. At first an 'honoured guest' on the island he finds his contact with the natives increasingly disturbing for they are unlike any men he has ever seen. After it transpires that these "men" are the result of experiments of the sinister scientist Dr. Moreau (Burt Lancaster) Braddock feels that he is in grave danger: from both these strange creatures and from Dr. Moreau himself. Unable to escape the confines of the island on his own Braddock knows not what to do or whom to turn to...

The original was actually quite creepy as the concept was well realized albeit with a lack of the effects and so on that we have today. This movie comes across as boring and uninspired simply because there is not enough character and depth in the creations of the Doctor. Kilmer too plays his part almost woodenly and doesn’t convey the inner passion that the original had.

um yeah this movie caused a lot of fuss when it was being made as it seemed basically none of the actors got along and most of them threw hissie fits and never turned up on set. an absolute mess of a movie which is largely unwatchable and basically a huge flop which is still trying to recoop the losses even today. not really worth watching or buying.

Based on one of H.G. Wells most disturbing novels The Island Of Dr. Moreau should have been a great movie. However it is not. To call it a disaster is being kind. The bizarre performances all of which seem to belong in different movies sabotage an already messy script. Its a bloated and confusing mess that should have been so much better.

The Island of Dr Moreau a classic film and should be in ever film fantatics collection. The numerous remakes and homages that this film has had made after it shows the prestige in which it is held. (ie Spy Kids 2 the Island of Lost Dreams is one clear example). The story still holds up and its a fun adventure

Awful 1996 film version of the chilling HG Wells 1896 novella... David Thewlis is an incredibly charisma-less leading man with the most annoying voice and accent in the world... and Nelson de la Rosa (between 28 and 33 inches tall) plays a repulsive, min-me type figure to Marlon Brando's weird Dr Moreau. Look out for Temuera Morrison as Azazello, the dog man... yuck...
